Editing has gone slower than I expected, but since this is my first book, I have nothing to compare our time schedule to. For all I know we might be rocketing forward at an amazing speed. My editor took time off for her wedding and honeymoon - a valid reason to take time from work — and we’ve improved the procedure for passing the manuscript back and forth. We should be be sending this baby to publication soon. I’ll let you know when I have a release date.

Like most of you, I’m a newbie when it comes to e-books. They’ve been around for several years and are growing in demand. I downloaded an acquaintance’s book from THE WILD ROSE PRESS, my publisher, and was please to find the process extremely simple. Click on the book you want, click on paypal (or fill out the credit card info), click on buy, click on the download button, and the book is on your desktop. You can enlarge the page and print size. Nice for those of us who have reading glasses.

Can’t wait for you to read my story.
Peggy

I’m official.

Every writer imagines the elation she (or he) will feel when she’s presented with an offer for her book. It didn’t go the way I had imagined.

The Wild Rose Press sent an email with an offer and an attached contract to publish my book. Greg found the email before I did. He printed it out and danced it over to me. Grinning from ear-to-ear, he said, “They want to publish your book.” He was elated. Me? I wanted to strangle him.

I was on the phone. I couldn’t break away without explaining why. And I didn’t want this news out, not until I’d had time to look at the contract and evaluate the terms. So for the next few minutes, I half-listened to the conversation and half-read the email, all the time steaming at Greg for his poor timing.

Further research, questions answered, and I returned the signed contract. Through the entire process, I never felt the thrill Greg had experienced. Hey, it’s a business contract. An intellectual, calculated decision.

My oh-my-gosh moment hit me when I saw my book cover.
I’m about to be published.
Now I’m excited!

I’m tackling my website. Dustin, my son, set my site up last year, and I let it sit and gather dust - just like my house. But in 2008, I’ll be editing and updating and keeping it fresh. You’ll find news on my writing career, tips for readers, and thoughts on the craft of writing. Anything to do with books, other than using them as doorstops, is up for grabs.

A writing reminder posted in my study.
The best books take us places we’ve never been, but show us deeper truths we’ve always known. The best writers expose our universal secret thoughts.

Enjoy life.
Don’t shrink from challenge.
